In 2014, SaskPower’s Boundary Dam Unit 3 (BD3) made history as the world’s first commercial-scale, post-combustion carbon capture facility on a coal-fired power plant.
After ten years of operation, the facility has captured more than 7.5 million tonnes of CO₂, while reliability has exceeded 95% in recent years and operating costs have been reduced by around 30%.
Download the white paper to discover what a decade of CCS operation has taught SaskPower and Shell Catalysts & Technologies:
Explore the challenges faced by this first-of-a-kind project, the solutions developed along the way and the practical insights gained for future CCS projects, including:
• Integrating carbon capture into an existing power plant
• Managing challenging flue gas quality and impurities
