Sustainable aviation fuel

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), also referred to as renewable jet fuel, is produced from renewable resources like biomass which leads to a reduction in overall net life cycle carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. When SAF is blended with conventional jet fuel, it still meets the Active Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuels: ASTM D1655. ASTM International is a regulatory body that specialises in testing materials and giving specifications on standards. This particular specification describes the necessary qualities and characteristics of aviation turbine fuel for civil use.

Shell Catalysts & Technologies licenses the Shell Renewable Refining Process to its customers that are interested in becoming renewable fuel producers. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies to produce lower-carbon fuels, energy producers can support their transition towards cleaner energy and improve environmental stewardship.
