Nanotechnology and energy

Nanotechnology is a class of technologies dealing with the manipulation of matter on the atomic, subatomic or molecular level for the purpose of industry. By applying nanotechnology, materials can be radically changed to be made stronger, more durable, more elastic, more lightweight, or a better conductor of energy. Smart fabrics can be equipped with nanoscale sensors and microchips to monitor health metrics. Transportation vehicles and the shipping sector benefit from lightweighting by the introduction of nanoscale additives to complex polymers. The food processing and packaging industry utilises nanotechnology to detect foodborne pathogens and extend the shelf-life of food products.

But how is nanotechnology being put to use in the energy sector? Nanotech is primarily being used in the sector to improve energy efficiencies and explore new and exciting ways of creating energy.
