Catalyst selectivity

Catalyst selectivity represents the ability of a catalyst to promote favourable reaction pathways that maximise the yield of desired products and minimise undesirable by-products. While catalytic activity enables reactions to progress, catalytic selectivity preferentially promotes the pathways that define the finished products and their quality. Catalyst selection must consider both activity and the selectivity of a catalyst to meet the desired objectives while maximising value, minimising waste, and meeting quality specifications.
