Energy Transition Glossary

Energy transition

The energy transition signifies a transformation of the global energy sector from fossil-based fuels and technologies towards lower, and ultimately zero-carbon alternatives. In order to limit the atmospheric impact of the energy sector and meet the aims of the Paris Agreement, alternative energy sources such as biomass, wind, solar and hydropower will need to be leveraged with increasing efficiency.

Shell Catalysts & Technologies' mission to Make Every Molecule Matter is in part motivated by the objectives of the energy transition and the climate goals of the Paris Agreement. We align these goals with our economic responsibility to shareholders and customers. The world needs more and cleaner energy solutions that reduce emissions and improve accessibility for all people indiscriminately. By challenging our scientists, engineers, business leaders and team members at every level of the organisation to Make Every Molecule Matter, we hope to support and enable the energy transition worldwide.
